All pianists born on or after January 01, 2005 who are not in professional musical training are eligible to participate.
The competition will take place in the following age groups:
1. participants up to 8 years, born in 2015 or later
2. participants from 9 - 10 years, born 2013-2014
3. participants from 11 - 12 years, born 2011-2012
4. participants from 13 - 14 years, born 2009-2010
5. participants from 15 - 16 years, born 2007-2008
6. participants from 17 - 18 years, born 2005-2006

Only piano solo repertory will be accepted.
At least two original works (also individual movements) from two different stylistic periods (see below), duration 6 to 10 minutes.
At least two original works (also individual movements) from two different stylistic periods (see below), duration 10 to 15 minutes.
At least three original works (also individual movements) from three different stylistic periods (see below), duration 15 to 20 minutes. At least one of the works should be polyphonic.
A Baroque including early baroque, music up to approx. 1750.
B Classical (including Schubert)
C Romanticism (including late and neo-romanticism, e.g. Rachmaninov), neo-traditional (e.g. folkloristic inspired) music and impressionism
D Music of the 20th or 21st century, exceptions see under C
Applications for the competition will take place online, no later than Dec. 1, 2023. All applications must include a short, self-performed video (free repertory). Should the number of applicants exceed the capacity of the competition, the video will be considered for a preselection.
The competition will take place on January 19 and 20, 2024 at GROTRIAN-STEINWEG, Grotrian-Steinweg Strasse 2, 38112 Braunschweig, Germany. Invitations with further information and the schedule will be sent around mid-December. All competition performances are open to the public.
The final concert will take place on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Staatstheater Braunschweig. 1st prize winners will participate in the final concert.
Each participant of the GROTRIAN-STEINWEG competition will receive a certificate. First, second and third prizes may be awarded. Promotional prizes will be awarded for particularly outstanding performances.
